[ http://www.ttzd.com/tech/timingbelttech.html ] (step 37 discusses the crank sprocket washers) Items I can think of that impact the belt from walking backwards are the crank washers, belt direction (arrows pointing forward), and the timing belt tensioner. The base of the idler pulleys when torqued correctly should sit flat against the block, so it's highly unlikely that they are out of alignment (but anything is possible). Hope this helps.
